My Friends,

Jerry Angelo spoke yesterday on the subject of Terry Johnson. Among his comments:

-"We're very disappointed and embarrassed by this,"
-"It's unfortunate, but it did happen and it did happen to Tank. He has had a history of doing things and that history has to stop."
-"I tell players this: It's not their talent that determines their careers, it's their character that determines their careers."
-"I know he is remorseful about his actions, but he does have to be held accountable for his actions at some point as well. We'll determine that point when that point comes. But I'm going to say, if players are smart, they're not going to flirt with the line. They know where the lines are and they better make sure they don't cross any lines. No player is that good."
-"Anything that's going to distract us from [the ability to win] is going to be treated very severely and I speak for everyone in the organization."

Now comes word that Willie B. Posey, Johnson's bodyguard and roommate, was shot to death outside a River North nightclub in the wee hours of Friday night/Saturday morning. According to the AP, he was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital about 2am, and local television stations were running footage of Johnson leaving the hospital. So either Johnson made the 40-mile trip from his Gurnee home to be with his friend on his deathbed, or he was there all along.

Notwithstanding that Johnson is behaving like he's trying out for a spot on the Raiders, we'll see how serious Jerry Angelo really was when he explained things.

Who knew that "it's only a matter of time" would mean less than 24 hours?
