My Friends,
In one of the more puzzling moves of the Bears’ recent past, Mark Bradley was
released today to make room for cornerback Marcus Hamilton. Bradley was dressed
this past Sunday, but I don't recall seeing him on the field with the offense
unless he got in for a play or two at the start of the second half while I was
waiting in the never-ending bathroom line. This comes after Rashied Davis
followed up his final-drive-killing drop in Carolina with another equally
damaging one against the Bucs. If Lovie wants to shake Davis up by cutting a
receiver who got all of one snap this season, he has things a bit
backwards.
I wish I knew what Bradley did to bury himself so deeply in the doghouse. All I
remember is watching what looked like a breakout performance in the first half
of the Bears visit to Detroit in 2006 before he tore an ACL. He was injured
again last year, but from all indications he's whole now, and instead they want
to watch Davis have crushing lapses in concentration at the most inopportune
times while Marty Booker couldn't run past George Costanza on a Rascal Scooter. Maybe this is the dawning of the Earl Bennett era. I hope he can
catch. I hope he can run. I hope he can play.
The addition of another cornerback is even more confounding when you consider
that Tillman and Vasher re-upped last year for around $33 million guaranteed
total, and now we're watching Vasher split time with Corey Graham. Then again, maybe
this is yet another message to Danieal Manning, as Hamilton plays nickel back.
Looks to me like they're rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
